Privacy Policy
Readtape is a family reading tracker for parents and adults. Children do not create accounts or interact with the app directly. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.
1. Who We Are
Readtape ("we", "us", "our") operates the Readtape iOS application and the website at readtape.com. You can contact us at privacy@readtape.com.
2. Data We Collect
Account information
When you create an account we collect your email address and, optionally, your name. Account authentication is handled by Clerk (clerk.com). Clerk stores your credentials and authentication tokens on our behalf.
Reading activity
We store the data you enter into the app: family member profiles (names), books added to your library (titles, authors, cover images), reading session logs (duration, date, which member read), and audiobook recordings you create within the app.
Purchase information
If you subscribe to a paid plan, purchase data (subscription status, transaction IDs, renewal dates) is processed by RevenueCat (revenuecat.com). We do not store your payment card details — these are handled by Apple's App Store.
Crash reports and diagnostics
We use Sentry (sentry.io) for crash reporting. Sentry may collect your IP address, device type, OS version, and — because we have enabled sendDefaultPii — your email address when a crash occurs. This data is used solely to diagnose and fix bugs.
3. How We Use Your Data
- To provide and maintain the Readtape service
- To authenticate you and keep your family's data in sync across devices
- To process subscription payments and restore purchases
- To identify and fix crashes and errors
- To contact you about your account or major changes to the service
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.
4. Third-Party Services
The following third-party services process data on our behalf:
- Clerk — authentication and user identity. Privacy policy
- Sentry — crash reporting and diagnostics. Privacy policy
- RevenueCat — subscription and purchase management. Privacy policy
5. Children's Privacy
Readtape is designed for use by parents and adults. Children do not create accounts, log in, or submit any data to our servers. Family member profiles (names, reading progress) are created and managed by the adult account holder.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently done so, please contact us at privacy@readtape.com and we will delete it promptly.
6. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data and reading activity within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.
Crash report data in Sentry is retained for 90 days.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@readtape.com.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit and authentication tokens managed by Clerk. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or through the app. Continued use of Readtape after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
