Terms of Service
By creating an account or using Readtape, you agree to these terms. Please read them — they're written to be understood, not to obscure anything.
1. Who Can Use Readtape
Readtape is intended for use by adults (18 years or older) or parents and guardians managing a family account. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. By using the app you confirm you meet this requirement.
2. Your Account
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Do not share your password. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. If you suspect unauthorized access, contact us immediately at support@readtape.com.
3. Family Members and Profiles
You may create reading profiles for family members within your account. These profiles are managed by you as the account holder. You are responsible for ensuring the use of Readtape through your account complies with these terms.
4. Subscriptions and Payments
Free tier
Readtape offers a free tier with core features. We reserve the right to adjust what is included in the free tier over time.
Paid subscriptions
Paid subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store. Pricing and billing intervals are shown at the time of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
Cancellations and refunds
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account settings. Refunds are subject to Apple's refund policy — we do not process refunds directly.
5. Your Content
You own the content you create in Readtape — including audiobook recordings, book lists, and reading notes. By using Readtape, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and transmit that content solely to provide the service to you.
You are responsible for ensuring that any audiobook recordings you create do not infringe third-party copyrights. Recording yourself reading a book aloud for personal, non-commercial family use is generally considered fair use, but we make no legal representations on your behalf.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use Readtape for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, hack, or disrupt the service
- Share your account with people outside your family unit to circumvent subscription limits
- Upload content that is illegal, harmful, or infringes the rights of others
7. Service Availability
We aim to keep Readtape available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may temporarily suspend the service for maintenance, updates, or circumstances outside our control.
8. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from the app settings. We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these terms. Upon termination, your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
9. Disclaimers
Readtape is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be error-free or that any defects will be corrected.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Readtape shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or through the app. Continued use of Readtape after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Readtape operates, without regard to conflict of law principles.
